International Master lasers and photonics
Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB), Germany, offers the international Master programme “Lasers and Photonics”. The programme‘s highly interdisciplinary subjects in the field of optics, lasers and photonics offer a wide range of interesting topics concerning both current research and a vast range of commercial products and applications. In addition to the fundamental courses in these fields, the programme offers hands on lab projects in modern, well equipped laser laboratories, international conference participations and projects with international collaborators.
The interdisciplinary programme is organized by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology together with the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, supported (in teaching and projects) by the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy and the Faculty of Chemistry and Biochemistry.
The two main research departments running the Master programme Lasers and Photonics are:
- Prof. Dr. Martin Hofmann
- Prof. Dr.-Ing. Andreas Ostendorf
Qualified are students that have at least 6 semesters (three years) university studies and a Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, chemistry or similar. The overall average grade (GPA) should be at least “good” (for example at least 73% out of 100%). A proof of English knowledge should also be provided. For admission to the English language degree course, English language skills at least at the level B2 CEFR (Common European Framework) are required. This may be demonstrated by providing a Unicert® II-certificate or the following international certificates with the corresponding scores: IELTS (academic) 5.5, and more, TOEFL IBT 98, and more, or FCE /First Certificate in English), CAE (Certificate in Advanced English) or CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English).
